Paneer Makhani (Paneer butter masala) - Restaurant Style Punjabi Recipe

Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) is all time favourite at home especially with my daughter. She is otherwise too picky when it comes to having leafy green veggies or dals (lentils) but one thing she can have even three times a day for all her meals and that is Paneer. Otherwise also being typical Punjabi’s we love to have Paneer dishes on almost all occasions. Even to the extent that we love to eat Paneer Makhani, Shahi Paneer and many more Paneer dishes whenever we are given a chance to choose along with the most preferred delicious Dal Makhani.

I keep making a lot of Paneer dishes at home for kids and my family and suddenly I realised many dishes that I prepare are missing on my blog. More often I prepare the simple paneer burji for kids and make it as a paneer wrap for kids. So here I am sharing the quick and easy to cook Paneer Dish – Paneer Makhani. Makhani means buttery so the name says it all, here I have used butter & cream both so the result is a creamy soft Paneer dish.

I find this recipe very handy and this comes to my rescue whenever I have last-minute guests at home for Dinner. Too easy and quick Paneer recipe, all you need is Paneer, Tomato puree, Onions and Cream. Mostly I have all these ingredients available in my kitchen so at that point of time I surely feel blessed :) .

Paneer Makhani (Paneer butter masala) – Restaurant Style Punjabi Recipe

Ingredients

  • Paneer – 250 grams
  • Fresh Cream – 150 grams
  • Tomato Puree – 150 grams
  • Onion Paste – 2 medium size
  • Butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Ginger Paste – ½ teaspoon
  • Red chilli powder – ¼ teaspoon or as per taste
  • Garam masala powder – ¼ teaspoon
  • Salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Take a pan, add in butter and melt it on medium flame, now add ginger paste and stir for few seconds and add in the onion paste. Keep stirring it for 5 minutes on low flame or till you feel onion paste is done and the colour lightly changed to light brown.
  2. Now add in the tomato puree, salt, red chilli powder and let it cook on low flame for 4-5 minutes.
  3. Once you see tomato puree also cooked and leaving the sides of the pan, add in the cream and stir continuously while pouring in the cream to the masala and cook for 2-3 minutes more.
  4. Now add in the paneer cubes and cook for 2 -3 minutes more.
  5. Pour it in the serving dish and sprinkle some garam masala powder.
  6. Garnish it with coriander leaves and serve hot with chapatti or parathas.

Paneer is my all time favorite. I can eat anything as long as it has paneer in it. Great recipe for less ingredients…

i usually add chopped onions to the paneer makhani. this dish is a favorite at my place too.. so funny all these north indian & punjabi paneer dishes we regularly make at home, but they don’t get updated on the blog…..

chopped onions also go well with paneer, I recently made one such version with chopped onions and tomatoes will add soon in the blog :) . Agree so many paneer dishes but too lazy to add them :) !

I can never resist panner makhni. The rich color of the gravy and the soft panner with the smell of kasturi methi, totally makes my day!

Delicious. Love the look of the gravy. Truly restaurant style. I will make it with the Maggi Bhuna Masala - since it has tomato and onion paste ready to use.
