Paneer Kheer Pudding - Indian Cottage Cheese Pudding Recipe
Ganesh Chaturthi festivity is still on and here I am back again with another Indian Sweet Recipe
! Paneer Kheer Pudding is simple and one of those quick recipes. I really love the colour and creamy texture of this dish and the delicately flavored cardamom and saffron combination in it. I feel it tastes same like Basundi but is much quicker in preparing than Basundi. My son loves Rice Pudding - Indian Kheer more than this but the rest of us love to have both
.
This Paneer Kheer Pudding is among one of those mouth-watering dishes that I make occasionally at home but is really delicious (when you eat a dessert then don’t count on the calories…
). Not too many ingredients required for making this - very simple recipe with only milk, paneer, sugar , saffron, cardamom powder & nuts.
Best dessert option when you don’t have too much time to work on preparing dishes for some get together. This can be made side by side along with the main course dishes. A best quick fix dessert which tastes great.
So no more waiting, let’s look at the recipe
! Do try this out for your loved ones at home and enjoy the lip smacking Indian Paneer Kheer Pudding.
Ingredients
- - Milk – 1 ½ ltrs
- - Sugar – ½ cup
- - A few strands of Saffron (Kesar)
- - Lemon Juice – 1 ½ tablespoon
- - Almonds & Pistachios (blanched and chopped) - 8 -10
Instructions
- Take ½ ltr milk and bring it to boil and when the milk starts to boil add lemon juice to it and stir it till the milk curdles.
- Strain this whey ( light green in color) from the curdled milk by pouring it on a muslin cloth.Let it rest there till the whey is seprated completely.
- At the same time soak saffron in very little warm milk and keep aside.
- Now boil remaining 1 ltr milk and then let it simmer on low flame for about 7 - 10 minutes or little more, add in saffron milk to it. Milk should simmer on low flame till it is reduced to half.
- Now add in sugar and stir continuously.
- Remove curdled milk from the muslin cloth and with spoon separate it gently in a bowl and pour it into the boiled milk and let it simmer again on low flame.
- Garnish with almonds, pistachios & Saffron Strands.
- It tastes delicious when serve chilled.
Enjoy the festival season with Indian Sweets!

!
Wow! Wow! I have to make this dish…BTW is saffron must can I use some other spice like cardamon for flavor…I should say that your picture has a rustic look with the trolly tray and the white painted table…
Thank you so much Nisa
! If Saffron is added it enhances the flavor & color of the dish, cardamon will do great for flavor.
I have known it as Chhena payesh as Bongs call it. In our place it was made without kesar.
Loving your pictures.
Thank you so much Sangeeta for visiting
. Yes this is almost similar to Channar Payesh from Bengali Cuisine only difference is that I have not made it that thick and rich like Channar Payesh, will try adding some condensed milk to this same recipe next time for a richer texture like a mix of rabri with paneer! I love to add Kesar whenever I get a chance
.
Looks lovely, and yum anamika. Lovely clicks as usual
PACHANTI

Hey thank you so much Shruthi, sure do try this one, it’s too easy
!
This looks so exotic ! reminds me of bong chanar payesh . Absolutely delish !!! loved the small wooden tray !
Thank you Sukanya, yes it is more or less similar to chanar payesh just a little less thicker than that and may be less paneer crumbs in it as compared to chanar payesh. I plan to make that too sometime soon
!
Such a lovely color! I never made kheer with paneer. I shud try this next time.
Thank you Spandana, the color is due to the pure kesar strands I used, got it from Kashmir
!
That is a pretty interesting twist to normal kheer. I never added paneer back to milk! Sounds good.
Hey thank Kankana, my family is a big time normal rice kheer freak so I tried this twist to change their taste buds a bit
!
It’s very different from the way we make it Anamika. Slight dose of madness added perhaps? How has this set? The photographs suggest that it’s a bit liquidy. Or is it the consistency like a normal pudding?
Hi! Yes Ishita, it is different from chanar payesh but almost similar because paneer in milk as the main ingredient. I clicked my pics after sometime of making this; this dessert will thicken as it cools so initially it will be a bit watery but not to worry. In fact it will taste delicious the next day and turn out to be thicker. I plan to make chanar payesh also soon as I have many crazy sweet tooth people around me at home
!
Lovely recipe…I am fan of kheer…this is little different from the ones I make at home…love to give this a try….nice presentation….
Hey thank you Lubna, I am glad you liked it
