Chutney’s are used not only for snacks at my home but I use them along with my main course meals too. Though I am total chutney person and love having chutney’s and I keep experimenting with my taste buds too. I made this simple, easy and quick Mint - Onion Chutney yesterday and then realised I haven’t put too many chutney recipes in my space. So here I am sharing this Mint - Onion Chutney
.
This chutney goes well with Dosa, Idli, Rice or even Paratha. I also make the regular Mint - Coriander Chutney and Alam Pachadi (Ginger tamarind chutney).
All you need for this quick mint-onion chutney recipe is mint leaves, onions, tamarind paste and few green chillies and one tablespoon of oil.
I love to eat chutney’s in any south indian restaurants but my favorite chutney is from Saravana Bhavan, I love their tomato chutney a lot however I also like Sukh Sagar’s and Maiya’s chutney’s out here in Bangalore. I love trying various versions of chutney’s at home and you will see more and more such trials & experiments from my kitchen right here till then STAY TUNED!!!!

OMG! finger licking chutney, goes very well with any starter or fries.
Thank you! Yes Sanoli it will go well with any kind of startes and with sizzlers too!
Looks so appetizing…….will try soon as I have lots of mint in my garden.
A few years ago I took some Indian cooking classes.
Our teacher served the foods we prepared with a homemade apple chutney which she made and did not(would not) give us the recipe for.
It was a cooked chutney that almost had the texture of jam, beautiful red color, spicy and sweet at teh same time and black dots in it which I think were mustard seeds (black).
Are you familar with this type of chutney or do you have a recipe for anything like this?
I would be so happy to be able to make it again…….I have lost contact with my teacher so cannot ask her.
Thanks for any help you or your readers can provide.
Isabel
Thank you Isabel for stopping by, sure do try out this mint chutney and the other version of mint chutney that I have in my space, actually both are different. With regard to the apple chutney, I have never prepared it but searched it for you over the internet and can suggest you to check out few versions available on the net. What I can think of when it comes to apple chutney is, chop the apples into cubes and cook them in very little water till they become mushy, add in sugar to your taste or jaggery with little spices like salt, red chilli powder and Indian garam masala. Cook it doe few minutes on low flame. At the end temper it with one teaspoon oil and mustard seeds….I hope this will work sweet and tangy. Do try if you like this version.
Thank you Anamika for your research and suggestions.
I will try it and let you know how it works out.
Love your site.
