A healthy snack recipe, high in proteins. I tried this snack for my kids because they eat very less of dal ( lentils ) and I felt this way can at least make them eat dal somehow. I was successful in making them eat these yummy chana dal vada’s and what you all also to try it, it taste crisp and yummy when served hot along with some chutney or a simple tomato ketchup.
Ingredients -
- Chana Dal - 1 cup
- Onions chopped - 1 large
- Green chilli chopped - 1 -2
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 /2 teaspoon
- Salt to taste
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Kasuri Methi - 1 tablespoon
- Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tablespoon
- A pinch of Heeng (asafoetida)
Method -
Wash and soak chana dal for about 4-5 hours. After 5 hours take the soaked dal and wash it again in running water, drain the dal with sieve and keep aside 2 tablespoon dal from the soaked dal separately.
Grind the rest of the dal into a paste coarsely with minimum water. Now chop onion, green chillies and coriander leaves.
Add everything in a mixing bowl - ground dal , 2 tablespoon soaked dal that we kept aside, chopped onions, chillies and ginger garlic paste.
Heat oil in a kadai ,once the oil is hot ( drop few drops of the mixture to check if oil is ready for frying) pour the vada mixture into the kadai with the help of a big spoon into small balls or you can wet your hands and take a spoon full of batter onto your palms and press a little and pour into the kadai for frying.
Let it cook for few seconds and don’t touch them and then turn them into the other side. Fry the vadas from both the sides and take them out when little golden in color on a tissue paper( it will help the excess oil to absorb on the paper). Serve hot with any chutney.
Enjoy!!
