M&M Cookies – Kids Delight

Cookies are liked by one and all, my kids are no exception. They love cookies and recently my daughter (it’s mostly my daughter only in my posts coz my son is not too demanding, mamma’s sweet boy :) ) was really after me to bake something nice for her….“something nice”- in her words means chocolates, cookies, cakes, cup cakes, candies, shakes, ice creams etc….and the list goes on. I asked her what exactly she wants and I got a reply again something nice maa :)….ohhhhh here I got stuck again, kids are really a tougher lot to handle!!!!

This time I tried my hands on cookies again, I guess I am on a cookie baking frenzy these days! After my peanut butter cookies, I felt like baking choco chip cookies but last-minute I changed my mind and baked these colorful yummy M&M cookies. I looked for various recipes, read reviews and then finally mixed matched few and ended up going my own way (guess I am going little brave on experimenting these days :) ). But that’s how I will learn more and more……!!!!! I baked these for the first time and they came out really good….Okkk no more of self praise :) .

M&M cookies are something that every kid would love to taste. It’s easy, fun, and well worth the efforts, my kids loved it!

Ingredients -

  • All-purpose flour – 2 Cups
  • Butter – 1 cup ( room temperature, soft)
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Light Brown Sugar (firmly packed) – ½ cup
  • Granulated Sugar – ½ cup
  • Baking Soda – ½ teaspoon
  • Vanilla Essence – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1/8 teaspoon
  • M&M’s chocolate candies – 1 cup approx. (I added in the batter also and placed them on top of the cookies also)

Method -

First step is to preheat oven for 10 minutes at 180 degrees C. Now take a big mixing bowl, add butter and both the sugars in it and cream them together, keep blending until light and fluffy using a hand blender.

When you see that the butter and sugar have mixed nicely, add egg and blend again, pour in the vanilla essence into the bowl and whisk again for few seconds.

In another bowl combine all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt. Now add this dry mixture to the wet mixture bowl slowly, mix well. Add some M&M’s to the main bowl and mix it with the help of a wooden spatula. I didn’t want my M&M’s to break hence I used a spatula for this step. Use your hands if you wish to mix all the ingredients now, if you feel your batter is little loose, do refrigerate it for about 20 minutes. Mine was little loose ( at least I felt so) and I never wanted to take a chance, so I placed my bowl in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to cool, this process helped me.

Take about 1 teaspoon or slight more batter in your hands and shape like a small ball, flatten it with your hands. Top M&M’s closely on top of the cookies as shown in the pics and press them a little. Place them onto your cookie sheets, remember to place them two inches apart.

Now bake them for about 17 minutes, till you see the edges turning light brown. Since this was my first time for these cookies, I preferred not to over cook (was little scared though :) )…..

But now I have got a fair idea that if I want them to be little crisp, I need to bake a little more that’s it!! Again it’s a personal choice but don’t over cook them, if you want little more crisp then bake them for another minute or so.

Mine came out soft and remained soft after hours of baking too unlike my peanut butter cookies that were crisp. So let them stay on the baking tray for a minute and after that place them on a wire rack to cool.

Yummy mouth-watering cookies are ready for your loved ones!

* I am going to bake these again soon on popular demand :) by my kids, shall update learnings if any in the same post.

Enjoy!!!!
