How to store green chillies for a long time ~ Tips & Tricks

While picking up my veggies I always tend to buy loads of greens which includes green chillies too. I use green chillies for making┬áchutney’s┬áand also use these┬áin my regular cooking. Green chillies are something that I would want to have in my kitchen forever.

Earlier I use to face a lot of problem with my green chillies as they would spoil in 2 -3 days and I was just unable to store them for long. Then I found out this trick and it really worked well for me.

Green chillies have bacteria around the stem which┬áleads to an early spoilage.To avoid my green chillies from spoiling , I remove the steam┬áone by one without washing them (you can pluck the stem gently with hand also and ensure you don’t┬áover pull it, you should be able to see the whiter part underneath). I just clean them with the kitchen napkin that’s┬áit. After removing the steam I store these in an air┬átight plastic┬ábox┬á or in a ziplock bag.

My green chillies remain in good condition without spoiling for about 2 weeks or more in the refrigerator.

Does it work for cut chillies too. I like to store finely chopped green chillies but find them turning black soon.

No Rachna, chopped green chillies will turn black if stored. This tip works well when we plan to store chillies for a longer duration without chopping them…

Thank you so much for sharing! I am Italian girl who recently married an Indian guy and we moved to Mumbai… I’m trying to learn how to use all these new food items that are available here and green chilies have been one of my main troubles :P
